We are seeking an experienced leader who can guide our operational teams, deliver high value services, and drive continuous improvement in one of Council's most important service areas.
About This Opportunity
As the Coordinator Waste & Resource Recovery, you will lead a dedicated team of operational staff and contractors to deliver vital waste management and resource recovery services across the municipality. Your work will directly contribute to environmental outcomes, community wellbeing, and responsible long-term management of Council's waste infrastructure.
In This Role, You Will
* Manage all strategic waste and resource recovery activities, operations and contracts in line with licensing, legislative and regulatory requirements.
* Monitor, investigate and continually improve systems for landfill operations and resource recovery to ensure financial sustainability and service effectiveness.
* Plan and deliver waste management and resource recovery programs, infrastructure and services that meet the current and future needs of our community.
* Foster a positive, collaborative and customer focused workplace culture through strong and consistent leadership.
* Lead waste education and change management initiatives to encourage responsible community behaviour.
* Work closely with state government agencies, neighbouring councils, industry bodies, consultants and contractors.
* Collaborate across Council to support capital works delivery, sustainability initiatives, and organisational objectives.
* You will report to the Manager Sustainability & Assets and provide leadership to Resource Recovery Centre Operators, Landfill Operators, and various consultants and contractors.
What You Will Bring
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications and 5+ years' experience in waste management, environmental services, or sustainability program delivery—preferably in a local government setting.
* Strong understanding of waste management policy, strategy development and industry best practice.
* Demonstrated experience in community engagement and education programs.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive internal and external relationships.
* Proven leadership experience, including coaching and mentoring staff.
* Strong financial, budgetary and resource management capability.
* Highly developed organisational and project management skills, including managing multiple priorities.
* Proficiency with information technology and digital systems to support operations and reporting.
