Are you passionate about making a difference for Western Australia?

We want to hear from you.

About us

The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.

What we do is integral to the Government's decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer's money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.

We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.

We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.

The work area

These roles sit within the Economic and Revenue Forecasting directorate which is part of the Economic business unit. The directorate monitors and analyses economic conditions in Western Australia, its key trading partners and commodity markets. It forecasts key economic aggregates, as well as tax and mining revenues (accounting for around half of total revenue) for the State.

The opportunity

Are you passionate about economics and want to deepen your understanding of the Western Australian, Australian and global economies? We are looking for motivated and capable economists with strong conceptual and analytical skills, and experience in the analysis and evaluation of both quantitative and qualitative information. You will be able to effectively communicate insights and present results to stakeholders. Ideally, you will be proactive, solution-focused, a strong team player, as well as able to work independently with minimal direction. You will demonstrate sound judgement, have the ability to anticipate and manage emerging risks and opportunities, and are willing to develop and apply new skills.

In these roles you will:

* monitor and analyse economic and other related data (e.g. labour market conditions)
* prepare, coordinate and present evidence-based advice and forecasts on economic conditions, commodity markets, and tax and royalty revenue trends;
* use and further develop data sources and models for analysis and forecasting economic and revenue aggregates;
* work collaboratively across government and other external stakeholders to inform forecasts and provide advice; and
* engage regularly with key industry stakeholders to gather insights on current conditions in the Western Australian economy and commodity markets.

While all roles will be involved in similar duties, more senior roles require greater levels of experience, stronger leadership capability, and the delivery of more complex and strategic advice.

We currently have three (3) permanent full-time positions to fill – one at each Level (Level 5, 6 and 7). This pool may be utilised to fill other positions within the Economic business unit that may become available within the next 12 months.
