About the role
This residential position works a 7/7 roster working 12 hours per shift. The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to our Surface Maintenance tradespeople and staff by offering assistance in order for them to complete their maintenance tasks safely and efficiently. The position will be required to assist our department maintain a high standard of housekeeping around our workshop, parts storage and laydown areas with tooling and equipment maintained to a safe and serviceable condition. The trades assistant will be required to work in a variety of locations around the surface mining and processing areas in high-risk environments.
Reporting to the Surface Maintenance Supervisors, your duties will include:
* Operate hand and power tooling in plant and workshop environments.
* Assist to maintain workshop and tool store tooling and equipment to ensure it is kept in a safe and serviceable condition.
* Conduct regular checks on Surface Maintenance vehicles, mobile equipment, tooling, ladders, welders, lifting gear, consumables, gas bottle and steel storage areas.
* Conduct regular electrical appliance testing and visual inspections of site fire water protections systems and valving.
* Complete high risk work sentry and asset spotting duties.
* Operate forklifts, telehandlers, elevating work platforms, vehicle mounted cranes, overhead travelling cranes and hoists as required.
* Assist planners to ensure all parts and materials are available for planned and scheduled work.
* Complete return to stock and outward goods advice tasks.
* Complete surface building general maintenance tasks including gutter cleaning, installation and cleaning of signage, painting, removal of weeds.
* Escort contract service technicians to their work location and assist with equipment servicing when required.
The successful candidate should possess the following:
* Basic computer skills as required to use the CMMS (Pronto) as part of the role.
* Safe use of power and hand tooling.
* Experience with operating mobile equipment including forklifts, telehandlers, elevating work platforms.
* Basic mechanical, electrical and building trades fundamentals.
* Experience in workshop and industrial plant environments.
* Trade qualification desirable but not essential.
