Strategic Cost Analyst – Defence Capability
As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in developing, reviewing, and maintaining cost models that inform high-value defence acquisition and sustainment projects.
You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and financial specialists to ensure decision-makers have accurate, evidence-based cost intelligence to achieve capability outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
* Developing and maintaining cost models, independent cost estimates, and through-life costing for complex defence projects.
* Supporting the preparation of business cases, gate review submissions, and CASG documentation.
* Conducting cost-risk, sensitivity, and analyses to support robust decision-making.
* Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate cost, schedule, and performance data.
* Analysing and interpreting financial, engineering, and logistic data to derive accurate cost inputs.
* Providing expert advice on budget planning, forecasting, and cost assurance activities.
* Contributing to the development of cost-modelling frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
* Presenting findings and insights to defence stakeholders and senior management in a clear, concise manner.
Requirements:
* Active NV1 security clearance (essential).
* Minimum 5 years' experience in cost analysis, estimation, or cost modelling within defence.
* Proven experience supporting ACAT 1 or ACAT 2 programs (>$500 M).
* Strong understanding of defence capability life cycle, gate reviews, and CASG processes.
* Advanced Excel modelling skills and experience with cost tools.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret technical and schedule data into financial models.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and report-writing skills.
* Degree qualifications in finance, economics, engineering, project management, or related field.
* Professional certification/s highly regarded.
* Background in earned value management (EVM), cost assurance, or performance baselining.
* Experience within defence primes or CASG (e.g., AIR, LAND, SEA, or joint projects).
* Familiarity with defence procurement frameworks and commonwealth cost assurance practices.
* Exposure to large project portfolios, cost database management, and benchmarking.
