Continuing, full-time
$110,591 to $128,345 per annum (HEO8) plus 17% Employer Superannuation
Salary packaging options available

About the role
The Senior Analyst and Data Scientist is a strategic position within the Business Intelligence and Analytics Unit, transforming complex datasets into actionable insights that drive university-wide decision-making. Reporting to the Manager, Analytics, Insights and Reporting, you'll lead advanced analytics projects, develop AI and machine learning models, and create compelling data visualizations that support UNE's Future Fit Strategic Plan

You will design and implement sophisticated analytical solutions, coordinate the team's program of work, and drive continuous improvement of the university's data science capabilities. A key part of your role involves delivering the UNE Data Literacy Programme, mentoring team members, and engaging with stakeholders across all university functions to clarify requirements and deliver timely, insightful analysis.

This role offers genuine variety—from deep technical work with SQL, Python, and R, to strategic consultation with senior leaders, to building data capability across the institution. You'll have autonomy to assess emerging technologies and recommend tools that enhance UNE's analytical maturity.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Advanced analytical expertise: Postgraduate qualifications in data analytics, data science, or related field, with extensive experience translating complex business problems into elegant analytical solutions.
Technical proficiency: Strong programming skills in SQL, Python, and R, with demonstrated experience in BI solutions, AI/machine learning, and data visualization. High proficiency with Excel, Power BI, Power Pivot, Power Query, and the Microsoft BI stack.
Strategic execution: Ability to lead complex data science projects from conception to deployment, coordinating workstreams, managing quality assurance, and ensuring deliverables align with business requirements and timelines.
Communication excellence: Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with a high focus on client service. You translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences, build strong relationships, and mentor team members while facilitating data literacy training.
Agility and initiative: Capacity to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality. You exercise sound judgement, work autonomously or collaboratively, stay current with industry trends, and champion continuous improvement.
