We bridge the gap between industry needs and Indigenous workforce participation through tailored, impactful programs.We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Trainers and Mentors to lead the delivery of two of our key defence programs—the Army Indigenous Development Program and the Regional Education Development Program—based at Defence Establishment Berrimah in Darwin.ESI proudly partners with the Australian Army to prepare young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians for meaningful careers through culturally rich, skills-based training. We’re now seeking committed, culturally aware Trainers and Mentors to guide the next generation of Indigenous recruits.About the RolesAs a Mentor or Trainer, you will support the emotional, cultural, and practical development of recruits. You’ll create a safe and motivating environment that aligns with Army values, focusing on administration, welfare, communication, teamwork, life skills, emotional regulation, and cultural interaction. The goal is to help recruits build the psycho-social and emotional skills needed for military training and to be valuable members of their communities. Through various activities, you will promote trust, model positive behaviour, reinforce education, and assist recruits in navigating the program, contributing to their growth in a structured military environment.ResponsibilitiesSupport recruits' personal and professional development within a structured military environment.Provide day-to-day mentorship focusing on welfare, emotional regulation, communication, and cultural awareness.Collaborate with ESI team leaders and Army staff to ensure smooth delivery of the program.Foster trust, respect, and teamwork among recruits and staff.Maintain professional boundaries while being a positive and accessible support figure.Prepare end-of-shift reports and flag any safety or welfare concerns.Promote safety in all activities and report any incidents promptly.Deliver engaging and effective training sessions aligned with Army standards and the FSK20119 Certificate II requirements (Trainers Only)About YouEssential:Mentors & Trainers:Support recruits' personal and professional development within a structured military environment.Provide day-to-day mentorship focusing on welfare, emotional regulation, communication, and cultural awareness.Collaborate with ESI team leaders and Army staff to ensure smooth delivery of the program.Foster trust, respect, and teamwork among recruits and staff.Maintain professional boundaries while being a positive and accessible support figure.Prepare end-of-shift reports and flag any safety or welfare concerns.Promote safety in all activities and report any incidents promptly.Additional for Trainers Only:Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent qualification in education or vocational training)Experience delivering training in the vocational education and training (VET) sectorKnowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements related to accredited trainingDesirable:Mentors & Trainers:Support recruits' personal and professional development within a structured military environment.Provide day-to-day mentorship focusing on welfare, emotional regulation, communication, and cultural awareness.Collaborate with ESI team leaders and Army staff to ensure smooth delivery of the program.Foster trust, respect, and teamwork among recruits and staff.Maintain professional boundaries while being a positive and accessible support figure.Prepare end-of-shift reports and flag any safety or welfare concerns.Promote safety in all activities and report any incidents promptly.Additional for Trainers Only:Experience assessing and marking against FSK training package or other foundation skills programsWhy Join ESI?Contribute to a nationally respected, culturally empowering program.Work in a supportive and inclusive team driven by values and purpose.Be part of the successful transition of Indigenous youth into the ADF.Opportunity to be involved in other programs and opportunities with ESITo ApplyIf you are passionate about mentoring and excited to making a meaningful impact on the lives of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, we would love to hear from you.
