Offer Description

* Part-time 0.8FTE (negotiable), fixed term for 12 months
* Opportunity to support and contribute to the broad architectural design research agenda of the Rothwell Chairs, renowned Japanese architects Atelier Bow Wow, exploring urban-rural connections
* Base Salary commencing from $105,117 pro-rata + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is seeking a Research Associate to join its dynamic team. This appointment is funded by a gift as the Garry and Susan Rothwell Chair in Architectural Design Leadership with a purpose to develop, through innovation in architecture and urbanism, the capacity of architectural design to improve people's quality of life.

This position will support and contribute to the broad architectural design research agenda of the Rothwell Co-Chairs, Atelier Bow Wow (2024-2026). Specifically, the position will support the research and production of exhibitions, publications and public engagement activity related to the Co-Chairs' research program on the Urban-Rural Commons. The position will work under the direction of an academic member of staff at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

* actively contribute to the development and production of a program of exhibition, publication, and public engagement shaped by the Co-Chairs' research and teaching agenda
* actively participate in broader research dissemination and engagement (e.g. seminars, conferences, publishing) to advance and promote the research program of the Rothwell Chair
* support the Research Program's public events, including proposing and developing events, identifying and liaising with speakers, and overseeing promotional material associated with these events, such as media releases
* collaborate with the Rothwell Academic Coordinator and other Rothwell program staff around events and publicity.

About you

* PhD is desirable and/or equivalent professional experience'
* a track record of conducting independent research resulting in individual or collaborative publications of high quality in modes appropriate to the field of research (which may include traditional academic publications as well as works oriented to a broader public)
* experience in curating and coordinating exhibitions, academic and/or public events
* excellent written and verbal communication skills
* excellent organisational and project management skills
* excellent design skills and visual literacy commensurate with exhibition/publication design and production
* ability to build relationships within and beyond the University
* demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within and outside the University in a team to meet agreed deadlines and achieve project goals
* experience in preparing and editing publications, and experience in collaborative authorship
* demonstrated understanding of WHS responsibilities and actively ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others at work in accordance with your delegated authority, as described in the University's WHS Policy and Procedures and role responsibilities
* understand the incorporation into University life of the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action; and ability to work positively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

DESIRABLE:

* Ability to communicate in Japanese.
