Purpose of Role
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper operation, reliability, and safety of all plant equipment and facility of WFL Ltd Kelso Plant. This role performs routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoots equipment issues, and supports continuous improvement by keeping machinery in optimal working condition.
The Maintenance Technician works closely with production teams to minimise downtime, respond to equipment breakdowns, and ensure compliance with safety, food safety, and quality standards. The role is also responsible for assisting with installation of new equipment, facility upkeep, and supporting the company’s overall efficiency goals.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Technical
- Follow routine Preventive Maintenance Plan as per manufacturers’ recommendations.
- Outsource problems to effective external support contractors and manage contractors when onsite to timely and effective resolutions. Maintain spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
- Build, modify, and install parts or equipment as needed to support operations.
- Weld and fabricate using stainless steel for plant repairs and projects.
- Assist with installation, setup and testing of new equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including completed work orders, parts usage, and equipment history.
Health & Safety
- Follow the site Health and Safety plans in line with plant objectives.
- Be an active participant in monthly Health & Safety meetings.
- Follow all Health and Safety systems and ensure safe work practices at all times.
Quality & Food Safety
- Follow the site Quality Plans in line with plant objectives.
- Demonstrate awareness of and adherence to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Demonstrate awareness of and adherence to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) principles and their application.
- Coordinate corrective actions efficiently and effectively, ensuring verification and close‑out are completed.

- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Support emergency response for facility and equipment breakdowns as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend and work on machinery for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and temperature variations.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and with tools/equipment as required.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ maintenance experience in the food manufacturing industry.
- Proven track record in implementing and maintaining food safety systems (HACCP, BRC, GMP).
- Paid day off on your birthday if it falls in your work week.
