Introduction:
Centacare North Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation providing counselling, family support, mediation, family dispute resolution, disability services, education and courses, crisis housing and homelessness support, youth services, community engagement, and NDIS services. It operates from offices in Townsville, Ayr, Bowen, Mt Isa, Cloncurry, and Normanton.

Description:
The Family Intervention Support Worker (FISW), guided by the Family Intervention Worker (FIW) and Senior Practitioner, provides practical family support to families involved in the child protection system, helping them care for and protect their children. This is a part-time role working 4 days per week.
Key responsibilities include:
* Building rapport with families while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Supporting the assessment of family needs through engagement, consultation, and information from various sources.
* Providing practical support strategies and modeling parenting and household skills.
* Maintaining regular contact with clients (5-20 hours/week), with a minimum of twice weekly, as directed.
* Providing supervised contact between parents and children as per intervention plans, including completing relevant agreements.
* Participating in regular reviews of intervention plan goals with FIW and Senior Practitioner.
* Maintaining client files in accordance with agency procedures, including case noting and documentation.
* Working within a trauma-informed and child development framework, utilizing evidence-based interventions.
* Reporting safety concerns immediately as per policy.
* Participating in team meetings, supervision, and staff development activities.

Skills and Experience:
* Certificate IV or higher in Community Services or similar.
* Ability to apply feedback creatively and flexibly to support families.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous clients.
* Knowledge of family functioning across diverse social and cultural contexts, including impacts of abuse and dysfunction.
* Organizational and administrative skills.
* Current open driver’s license.
* Valid Working with Children Blue Card and Disability Services Yellow Card.
Desirable:
* Experience or skills in community education or group work.
* Relevant experience in community services, NFP, or faith-based sectors.
