Azooa is currently responding to an RFQ for the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) and seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Oracle professionals who want to contribute to critical Federal Government systems.
This opportunity supports business-critical platforms within a secure, compliance-driven environment and offers long-term contract potential.
About the Role
The Oracle Administrator / Data Architect will design, administer, optimise, and secure AFSA's on-premise Oracle database environment.
While the title includes architectural responsibilities, this role is primarily operational DBA-focused (80–90%), with oversight across Oracle and SQL database platforms.
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring:
High availability and resilience
Performance optimisation
Strong security posture aligned to ISM & Essential Eight
Continuous improvement and lifecycle modernisation
Key Responsibilities
Oracle Database Administration
Manage and administer Oracle database systems
Ensure optimal performance, availability, reliability, and security
Perform patching, upgrades, backup, and recovery
Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning
Infrastructure & Architectural Oversight
Design, document, and implement database infrastructure solutions
Work across Oracle and SQL Server (MS-SQL / Azure SQL) environments
Collaborate with enterprise architects, application teams, and engineers
Security & Compliance Alignment
Strengthen database security posture in line with ISM and Essential Eight
Support compliance with AFSA's risk management framework
Maintain documentation, operating procedures, and root cause artefacts
Operational Excellence & Automation
Develop and enhance automation and monitoring solutions
Manage incidents and service requests to maintain high service standards
Improve operational efficiency and system performance
Technology Initiatives
Contribute to lifecycle upgrades and platform modernisation
Support continuous improvement initiatives across database environments
All work must align with APS Values, Code of Conduct, WHS obligations, and Federal Government governance standards.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 5+ years' experience in IT engineering, database design/build, or senior DBA roles
Strong hands-on experience administering Oracle Server (on-premise)
Experience supporting MS SQL / Azure SQL environments
Proven expertise in performance tuning, HA configurations, backup & recovery
Demonstrated experience in secure and compliant environments
Strong incident management and stakeholder engagement capability
Tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent industry experience
Current Baseline Security Clearance (Mandatory)
Desirable Criteria
Oracle or MS-SQL certifications
Experience contributing to lifecycle upgrade programs
Exposure to automation and monitoring tool development
Experience within Federal Government or regulated environments
