Primary objective
To provide leadership, management and strategic policy direction to the Office of the Children's Commissioner NT. The
position has primary responsibility for promoting the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children by providing quality services
in oversight, monitoring, investigations, education and ensuring the office is accountable and effective.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strong leadership and effective resource management including supervision of staff in the Office of the Children's
Commissioner.
2. Assist in the management and oversight of complex and sensitive investigations dealing with the safety and wellbeing of
vulnerable children and effective resolution of matters that are of a highly confidential and sensitive nature.
3. Deliver effective strategic and analytical advice to the Children's Commissioner.
4. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships across all levels of Government, non-government
organisations and community.
5. Implement and maintain effective reporting and accountability systems on all areas within the position's responsibility.
6. Overall responsibility for the oversight of timely, concise and comprehensive reports for management, including briefs
for Cabinet or Ministerial advice and correspondence.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated recent senior management experience which includes the management of human, financial, technological
and infrastructure resources.
2. Extensive knowledge and proven experience relating to strategic planning, information management and project
management.
3. Extensive knowledge of the role and function of the Office of the Children's Commissioner NT and an ability to translate
this understanding into strategic advice, policies and frameworks, and program development and reform.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the operation and mechanisms of Government, the NT Public Sector and non-
government organisations, including strategies, tactics and protocols for inter-governmental and community relations.
5. Experience at a senior level in leading the development and implementation of processes for policy reform, program
models and resource allocation that are responsive to contemporary and emerging issues.
6. Demonstrated experience in investigation, negotiation, and resolution of complaints.
Desirable
1. Degree in a relevant discipline and/or successful completion of an executive leadership development program.
2. Understanding the issues relating to vulnerable children.
3. Preparedness to travel within the NT.
