Position Information
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
About the Role
Student Support Officers work within the school community to enhance student wellbeing and learning outcomes in partnership with the wellbeing team and the school counselling service. They provide individual and targeted wellbeing support, whole-of-school wellbeing initiatives and programs that are evidence-based, and collaborate with external agencies to create referral pathways for students and families.
Essential Requirements
* A completed diploma or higher qualification in social work, youth work, welfare or related discipline must be attached with your application.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies.
* Valid and current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

School Overview
Bourke High School is a coeducational Connected Communities school servicing Bourke and surrounding areas. Bourke High School currently has approximately 120 students enrolled, with 89% of these students identifying as Aboriginal. The school is focusing on improving literacy and numeracy results for all students, building relationships with feeder primary schools to strengthen transition programs in Stages 3 to 4. Bourke High School is improving teacher quality through the use of evidence based classroom practices. Bourke High School has a high and continually improving Stage 6 retention rate, and we are proud of our consistent ability to see Stage 6 students achieve their goals of employment or tertiary education in the post school years. Bourke High School is recognised as a leader in the community and has built strong partnerships with outside agencies.
