About the role: Our client is a major Commonwealth department delivering programs and services that drive Australia’s economic agenda. The CIO Division provides enabling ICT services and is investing heavily in digital transformation, cloud-native platforms and modern application delivery. This is a genuine requirement to engage multiple Software Engineers across the Division’s active project portfolio. You will join multi-disciplinary delivery teams building and supporting secure, cloud-native web applications on the Azure platform. The stack centres on .NET 8/10 backend services with React frontends, integrated via REST APIs and event-driven patterns. You will work across the full software lifecycle, from design through CI/CD to production support, in an agile delivery model. This is a hands-on engineering role. Start date is 1 July 2026. Full-time, 40 hours per week. Primarily onsite in Canberra; remote working may be considered case by case subject to business needs. Responsibilities: Build and maintain secure .NET 8/10 backend services and REST APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2/OIDC), and deliver React frontends that meet accessibility requirements Integrate internal and third-party systems end-to-end, including event-driven messaging, identity services and CRM platforms (e.g. Dynamics 365) Write automated tests (unit, integration, UI), enforce quality gates in CI/CD pipelines and conduct peer code reviews in Azure DevOps Apply ISM security controls, secure coding practices and secrets management (e.g. Key Vault) throughout the build and release cycle Produce technical documentation, release notes and operational runbooks; communicate progress, risks and dependencies to technical and non-technical stakeholders Mentor and support team members, promote cross-skilling and foster a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement Essential Skills & Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience designing, building and supporting secure web solutions across backend and frontend, including modern .NET (8/10), ASP.NET Web APIs, React and automated testing frameworks Tertiary qualifications in software engineering (or equivalent experience) with strong knowledge of cloud-native patterns, event-driven integration and data platforms (SQL Server/Azure SQL, Blob Storage, caching) Hands-on Azure delivery and operations: App Services/Functions, Azure SQL, Service Bus/Event Grid, API Management, CI/CD via Azure DevOps, monitoring (e.g. App Insights), and legacy modernisation API-led delivery experience, including governance, OpenAPI/Swagger, performance tuning and API security patterns Familiarity with ISM controls applied in build and design; effective communication across dispersed teams and ability to mentor and support team outcomes Desirable: Test automation and quality engineering in CI/CD (unit, integration, UI; e.g. Playwright/Selenium, Jest, static analysis) Experience delivering in multi-disciplinary Agile teams with the ability to adapt scope and approach as requirements and constraints evolve Requirements: Australian citizen Current Baseline security clearance at commencement (non-negotiable) Available to start 1 July 2026 Canberra-based or willing to relocate Working Environment: You will work within a collaborative, agile delivery environment alongside product owners, UX designers, security specialists and operations teams.
