Financial Controller - Permanent Role - Independent School
An independent school in Canberra that is experiencing impressive growth. The school currently has circa 400 students and is projected to double in the next 4 to 5 years. It’s supported by an engaged community of parents and has solid financial foundations.
Role
The Financial Controller will lead the finance function, supported by staff responsible for financial processing (AP/AR, etc.). They use Xero as the FMIS, and you will lead financial reporting, management reporting, and provide strategic and operational financial guidance to the Principal and the Board. This is a newly created role which demonstrates the investment in corporate services to mirror the expansion of the academic side of the school.
This is a permanent role with a salary of up to $130k + super on offer. You’ll have 2 direct reports in this role.
Your Skills and Experience
- You do not necessarily need to have gained experience from an educational setting, although this will help you transition smoothly. The school is keen to meet finance professionals who have led growing organisations with diverse revenues.
- Experience with government grants and reporting on government grants is highly desirable.
- You must be professionally qualified (CA/CPA) and have full Australian work rights.
- Experience developing and delivering financial statements and management reports that support the Board and executive decision-making.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people with varying levels of financial literacy, adjusting style and engagement accordingly.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate, support and develop your team.
