About the role
This four-year apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience maintaining Canberra’s parks, gardens and public spaces while completing a Certificate III in Horticulture (Parks and Gardens) at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT). You’ll rotate across different depots, learning from experienced teams and gaining practical skills in:
- Planting and maintaining trees, shrubs, and floral displays
- Lawn care and landscaping
- Irrigation and pest control
- Cleaning and upkeep of public amenities and open spaces
- Safe operation of horticultural equipment
By the end of the program you will be job-ready with nationally recognised qualifications and diverse experience in urban open-space management.

We’re seeking motivated individuals who:
- Have a genuine interest in horticulture and the environment
- Are eager to learn and complete both practical and classroom training
- Can work effectively in a team and follow direction
- Are physically capable of performing manual outdoor work
- Hold a Class C Driver’s Licence

Eligibility & Other requirements
- Minimum Year 10 Certificate or equivalent (passes in English and Mathematics required; Science desirable)
- Pre‑employment medical required
- Class C Driver’s Licence (essential)
