Applications are sought from applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Museum Assistant with the AFP Museum.
In line with the Australian Federal Police Museum's strategic direction, the Museum Assistant will provide support in all aspects of museum operations, in particular historic vehicle management.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
What will you do?
Establish and maintain best museums practices in motor vehicle maintenance, preservation, and restoration and assist with the collection display and collection acquisition
Assist with the management of the collection including receipting, accessioning, cataloguing, stocktaking, storage, cleaning, pest management, digitisation and photography
Conduct research in the identification and interpretation of the museum collection
Respond to museum client enquiries regarding collection items
Assist with the organisation and implementation of audience-focussed museum programs such as exhibitions, events, ceremonies, open days, promotional content and tours.
Respond to requests by contractors and AFP staff for access to the museum storage facility for maintenance, servicing and monitoring
Essential Requirements
Have an NV1 or the ability to obtain one.
Knowledge of basic collection management practices and techniques with objects of historical value including vehicles in a museum environment or similar
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a confident and flexible approach in interacting with a range of stakeholders including donors, technical experts, volunteers and police to achieve desired outcomes
High level of attention to detail accuracy including strong investigative and analytical and skills
Strong organisational skills, with the capability to complete and prioritise tasks to meet agreed quality, timescale and strategic objectives
**Qualifications**:
Progress towards or tertiary qualifications in museum studies or cultural heritage management (desirable)
Manual Drivers' Licence
