Job Description
The Legal Advice and Strategy team is a generalist legal team that provides expert legal advice to various stakeholders. This team is responsible for the interpretation and development of legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act), Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act), Seafarers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1992, and other relevant laws.
The team also provides legal advice and support for corporate and commercial matters, such as procurement, as well as legal support to governance and corporate operations. Additionally, they assist in supporting the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission and the Seacare Authority.
Role Overview
Under supervision, the Legal Adviser will support the development of client-focused legal advice and support Comcare staff on legal and policy matters.
The Legal Adviser will manage risk effectively and manage their workload in a manner consistent with APS Values and Code of Conduct, Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal procedures.
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
* Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
* Current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.
Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment
* Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
* Employee Health Declaration.
* Six months probationary period for new engagements.
