About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Control Room Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess proven control room experience and demonstrate strong skills in AEMO, NER, and safety requirements. A solid understanding of the Australian energy markets and technical proficiency with SCADA systems are essential for success in this role.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

- Mission and priority objectives: Remotely monitor GPG assets from the Control Center in Canberra (APREC), in accordance with AEMO, National Electricity Rules, safety, performance maximization, and all procedures and equipment manuals.
- Monitor assets and processes to ensure operation complies with relevant requirements; assess performance and condition of equipment and detect deviations.
- Real-time monitoring of equipment and substations; promptly react to incidents, trips, warnings to reduce impact.
- Follow up execution of required actions to resolve warnings, un-availabilities, under-performance or other deviations with Remote O&M; Control Rooms and Site Managers/Supervisors.
- Monitor asset compliance with energy targets, Generator Performance Standards and other parameters.
- Execute remote maneuvers as instructed by the Market Operator (AEMO).
- Analyze data evolution in SCADA and control power plant operations per regulations and operating plans.
- Communicate with Regional Manager or Site Managers for programmed/non-programmed works and notify serious incidents requiring local action.
- Interact in real time with AEMO and Transmission Network Service Providers according to operating protocols.
- Record and report operational incidents; act according to Emergency Response Plans.
- Manage supplier relationships ensuring contractual terms are met.
- Execute daily reporting activities and performance analyses; maintain Control Room Logbook.
- Collaborate on procedure development related to Control Room activities.
- Trading activities: have basic exposure to Australian Energy Markets; monitor markets during shifts; analyze markets to optimize position; perform short, medium and real-time availability bidding; monitor auto-bidders and perform manual corrections; bid assets when required.
- Access CCTV systems to enhance site security; monitor weather forecasts and issue alerts; handle emergency calls from asset personnel or stakeholders.
- Liaise with IT support to maintain availability of essential software and hardware; liaise with Maintenance Contractors to maximise availability as directed.
- Participate in 24/7/365 shift rotation and handover; may be required to cover shifts outside ordinary hours per GPGA policy.
- Collaborate with other operators and traders on market-related initiatives; ensure compliance with corporate and industry requirements.
- Write and maintain up-to-date departmental procedures and guides in cooperation with Control Room Manager, Energy Market Manager, and Site Managers.
- Maintain operational relationships with O&M; Contractors, AEMO, TNSPs, government representatives, off-takers and PPA parties as required.
- Implement GPGA trading and optimization strategies given prevailing and expected market outcomes.
- Coordinate maintenance and outages with direction from Control Room Manager, Site Manager and Energy Market Manager; include notifications to AEMO.
- Analyze operational data from all assets and provide first-line reports to revenue management and operational teams in Australia and globally.

Functions and Tasks

- Real-time operation: Perform remote operation and real-time supervision of wind turbines and substations from APREC; execute remote maneuvers as instructed by AEMO; monitor plants and processes for compliance with requirements; analyze data evolution and act per regulations and plans; monitor equipment performance and condition.

Internal Communication

- Direct communication with Regional Manager/Site Managers for coordination of works and notification of serious incidents requiring local action; communicate market situations to Energy Markets management.

External Communication

- Follow up actions to resolve warnings or deviations with Remote O&M; Control Rooms/Supervisors; real-time liaison with AEMO and with Transmission Network Service Providers per asset protocols.

Backoffice

- Daily reporting and collaboration; develop dashboards for KPI review; maintain asset records and registers.

Health and Safety Commitment

- Ensure compliance with general health and safety criteria and regulations; contribute to culture of risk anticipation and accident prevention.

Academic Training

- Vocational Educational Training (VET) or Associate Degree; preferably Electrical, Renewable or IT.

Specific Training

- Training related to wind turbines, batteries or solar farms is positively regarded; training in control systems; training in data management is positively regarded.

Professional Experience

- 2 years of experience in control and monitoring positions.

Specific Knowledge

- Basic knowledge of generation plant operations (prefer renewable); basic knowledge of the operation of the Australian energy market; data analysis capacity; high level Excel.

- Professional integrity; self-knowledge; flexibility.
