About the role: The Senior Medical Adviser, Communicable Disease is a senior public health leadership role providing authoritative advice and support to the Deputy Chief Health Officer (Communicable Disease), the Chief Health Officer and staff in the Community and Public Health Division. The role may act in place of senior leaders within the Office of the Chief Health Branch Officer Branch for periods of leave or other backfill. As a Senior Medical Adviser, you will contribute to the coordination of prevention and response to public health incidents, represent the department on state and national committees, participate in emergency management activities and provide Division-wide public health medical support. About you: Can you demonstrate the following? * Provide high level authoritative public health medical/clinical, technical and strategic advice and input to policy development, review and reporting on significant issues in the Community and Public Health Division. * Represent the department on intergovernmental advisory, policy and research committees/forums at the state, national and community level to promote and protect public health. * Undertake strategic and proactive health protection activities to analyse data, detect, investigate, prevent and respond to public health risks. Identify and respond to new and emerging health protection trends by designing and implementing interventions to address increased risks. * Contribute to the education, training and supervision of public health medicine registrars and other junior staff. * Lead investigations and review incidents including investigations into public health issues and provide reports to the Deputy Chief Health Officer (Communicable Disease). * Using collaborative practice with managers, VPS officers and the public health sector improve public health outcomes. Have oversight of the development of standards, procedures, plans, guidelines and policies. Qualifications / Specialist Expertise Mandatory: Full and current registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Desirable: * Postgraduate qualification in Public Health and/or Infectious Diseases * Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) - Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM), or a relevant RACP specialty such as Infectious Diseases * Specialist registration with AHPRA * Senior experience in public health medicine. * Knowledge and understanding of the key issues in the delivery of public health management of communicable diseases.
