Kimberley Community Legal Services (KCLS) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation providing free civil legal help, financial counselling, and social support across the vast Kimberley region of Western Australia. With offices in Broome and Kununurra, KCLS is one of Australia's most remote community legal centres, supporting both urban and remote First Nations communities.

KCLS is seeking a full-time Financial Counsellor based in Kununurra, WA - a gateway to meaningful work, professional growth, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences across the Kimberley.

This isn't just another financial counselling role. It's an opportunity to build trusted relationships with remote Kimberley communities, work alongside a multidisciplinary team, and use your skills to create meaningful change in people's lives. From one‑on‑one financial counselling to community outreach, advocacy, and travel to places many services never reach, the work is as diverse as it is impactful. No two days are the same, and every day brings purpose.

Key responsibilities include:

* Providing financial counselling services – including advice, assistance and representation – to clients as part of an integrated, holistic and client-focused service, from KCLS offices and remote outreach locations.
* Refering clients internally and to other relevant services and community resources, based on a sound knowledge of and relationships with other service providers and governments.
* Working with other staff to identify gaps, priorities and emerging needs in community financial information and education, and co-delivering programs and initiatives which respond to those needs.
* Participating in interagency networks to build/maintain relationships with referring agencies, key organisations, community leaders and local people relevant to the area.
* Working with other financial counselling services across the Kimberley (and statewide) to strengthen our regional community of practice for financial counselling.
* Assisting in the preparation of reports to funding agencies by maintaining statistics and other records as required.

Job Requirements:


To be eligible, candidates must hold (or be currently studying toward) the CHC5112 Diploma in Financial Counselling.

While 5+ years of experience is preferred for appointment, candidates with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a relevant role are encouraged to apply and will be considered for the Financial Counsellor position.

You will also demonstrate:

* Critical interpersonal communication skills, including communicating with clients with empathy and reflecting on practice.
* Critical written skills, including the ability to write financial concepts in plain language.
* Sound organisational skills and ability to manage workload, competing demands, meet deadlines and to work effectively as part of a team.
* Understanding and commitment to principles of social justice and to working effectively with Indigenous people.
* Experience in advising and representing people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and in developing and delivering community education programs.
* Personal resilience, adaptability and ability to meet the challenges of remote service delivery.
* Current driver's licence valid for use in WA.

While not essential, the following experience will be highly regarded:

* Prior work in a community legal practice setting and/or community-based organisation in remote and rural Australia
* Knowledge of trauma-informed or multidisciplinary practice
* Exposure to regional or remote service delivery environments
* Experience developing or delivering community legal education programs

Successful candidates will need (or be able to obtain) a current WA 'C' Class Driver's Licence, a Working with Children Check (WA), and a National Police Clearance.
