About the Role – C2 Application Engineer
This is an elite technical integration position embedded within the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) — the Army's leading design, evaluation, integration, and validation organisation for the future Land Combat System (LCS). The LCS brings together Army's C4ISR, edge computing, tactical communications, applications, vehicles, soldier systems, sensors, and effectors into a cohesive, integrated capability "by design."
The C2 Application Engineer plays a pivotal role in enabling this ecosystem by designing, integrating, configuring, documenting, validating, training, and supporting advanced C4ISR applications and the networks they rely upon.
This role is highly hands-on, deeply technical, and perfect for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of:
tactical networking
containerised systems
Defence mission applications
field support and T&E activities
You will be part of a small, specialist team with significant influence on Army's future capability outcomes.
Install, configure, and integrate C4ISR mission applications across complex Defence networks.
Develop platform support, data exchange interfaces, and integration pathways between distributed systems.
Manage virtualisation workloads using KVM, vSphere, and similar hypervisors.
Engineer and optimise network architectures using OSPF, BGP, Multicast, and advanced tactical routing.
Support the deployment of containerised applications (Docker/Podman/K8s).
Implement PKI, secure credential handling, and secure application hosting environments.
Develop automation scripts and repeatable build/deployment processes where appropriate.
Produce and maintain detailed system design artefacts, architecture diagrams, and integration specifications.
Maintain configuration control of rapidly evolving C4ISR environments using Defence-compliant methods.
Review and challenge project designs to ensure interoperability and alignment with the Land Combat System architecture.
Contribute to the development of reference architectures and technology baselines.
Work closely with security teams to ensure accreditation and compliance standards are met.
Design training packages, course materials, and knowledge-transfer artefacts for deployed technologies.
Deliver practical, scenario-driven instruction to joint technical tradespersons and both technical and non-technical ADF/APS staff.
Support broader workforce uplift activities, mentoring junior engineers and helping shape technical standards.
Support to Exercises, Test & Evaluation, and Validation Activities
Provide technical support to Army exercises, demonstrations, user trials, and field evaluations.
Assist in preparing systems for deployment, including configuration, packaging, testing, and troubleshooting.
Support LNIC's Validate Frame, contributing to systems-of-systems T&E and capability acceptance processes.
Work closely with operational users, capturing feedback and helping iterate system improvements.
Assist in managing C4ISR hosting environments within Test, Development, Integration, and Production domains.
Work collaboratively with ADF, APS, prime vendors, industry partners, and program teams.
Support cross-program integration activities, ensuring alignment with enterprise and tactical standards.
Engage constructively with capability managers, project offices, and technical authorities.
Undertake activities as directed by SO2 LCS Validation or other authorised Defence stakeholders.
Comply with all security, probity, ITAR, WHS, and Defence policy requirements.
Maintain accurate activity records and contribute to governance documentation.
Mastery of KVM, vSphere, and enterprise-grade virtualisation platforms.
Strong networking skills across Cisco IOS, iBTN, routing/switching, and tactical network architectures.
Advanced routing expertise: OSPF, BGP, Multicast, link optimisation, and network redundancy techniques.
Experience with containers, secure enclaves, PKI, identity services, and secure environment design.
Ability to troubleshoot complex, distributed systems across multiple layers (app, OS, network, platform).
Formal training or significant practical experience with ADF C4ISR systems, networks, or mission applications.
Experience with tactical/operational network integration at brigade, battlegroup, or joint levels.
Understanding of Defence security accreditation, system hardening, and capability integration frameworks.
Excellent technical writing, documentation, and diagramming capability.
Highly autonomous with the ability to operate as a senior practitioner in a small team.
Strong communication skills and professional stakeholder engagement.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for exercises, training, or validation tasks.
