About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Machinist to take a hands-on leadership role within our precision machining operations. This position suits a highly skilled machinist who enjoys setting the technical standard on the shop floor while mentoring others and driving quality, safety, and efficiency.
You will work closely with engineering, quality, and management to ensure parts are produced right first time, on schedule, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day machining operations across CNC and/or manual equipment
* Set up, program, prove out, and optimise jobs (3-axis, 4-axis, and/or 5-axis CNC as applicable)
* Interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications
* Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions
* Mentor and support machinists and apprentices on best practices
* Ensure adherence to quality standards, inspection requirements, and documentation
* Liaise with quality and engineering teams to resolve non-conformances
* Drive continuous improvement in cycle times, tooling, and processes
* Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and equipment care

Skills & Experience
* Trade-qualified machinist (Cert III or equivalent)
* Minimum 7+ years machining experience, including CNC
* Proven experience in a senior or lead machinist role
* Strong knowledge of CNC programming (Fanuc / Siemens / Heidenhain or similar)
* Solid understanding of GD&T and precision measurement
* Experience with aerospace, defence, mining, or high-tolerance manufacturing preferred
* Confident using measuring equipment (Precision measuring instruments, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.)
* Ability to lead by example and communicate clearly on the shop floor
