Offer description

Sydney Markets is home to the largest Fruit, Vegetable, and Flower Market in the Southern Hemisphere, driving over 3 billion dollars in economic activity each year through our 2,000 shareholders. With 6,000 people working on site daily, Sydney Markets is a critical link in Australia's food supply chain, ensuring that fresh produce reaches over 7 million Australians every day.

Are you a reliable and proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment?

Do you take pride in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, even while the rest of the city sleeps?

About the role

We're looking for a dependable and proactive Market Officer to join our team, an individual who take pride in hands-on work and thrive in fast-paced, early-morning environments.

As a Market Officer, you'll play a critical role in both customer service and safety compliance on the market floor. Acting on behalf of Sydney Markets, you'll help ensure the market is a safe, functional, and welcoming place to work and trade. You'll be the first point of contact for tenant queries, on-the-ground safety monitoring, and emergency response, representing the company's values through your professionalism, responsiveness, and vigilance.

This isn't a desk job. It's a practical, people-focused role for someone who can keep operations moving, respond quickly to challenges, and build strong relationships on the ground.

Key responsibilities

Customer and Tenant Support

Be a friendly, helpful presence for tenants, traders, and customers on site.

Resolve enquiries, assist with procedures, and help maintain a positive market culture.

Safety and Emergency Response

Maintain a vigilant presence to identify risks and support WHS compliance.

Administer First Aid and manage emergency situations as needed.

Ensure traffic control and equipment safety standards are upheld.

Patrol and Oversight

Conduct regular patrols to support order, cleanliness, and operational standards.

Report issues such as maintenance needs, disturbances, or safety concerns.

Work with security to deter and report theft or suspicious activity.

Communication and Reporting

Maintain clear communication via radio and mobile during daily operations.

Revenue and Admin Support

Handle fee collection and issue receipts with accuracy and professionalism.

Operate basic financial systems and maintain records.

Teamwork and Development

Collaborate closely with your team and take part in ongoing training.

Contribute to a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Hours: 2am starts, Monday - Friday.

Skills & ExperienceRequired

Willingness and ability to work early mornings.

Current Driver's Licence (required), First Aid Certificate (preferred), and Forklift HRW Licence (preferred).

Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety (or working toward).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic financial systems.

3+ years' experience in a similar operational, customer-facing, or compliance-focused role.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle challenging situations with calm and confidence.

A high level of personal accountability, attention to detail, and resilience.

Ready to Join Us?

If you're the kind of person who shows up when others don't, keeps their cool in a crisis, and takes ownership of every task, big or small, we'd love to hear from you.

This is more than a job; it's a role for people who take pride in service, safety, and teamwork. You'll be supported by a close-knit team and be part of a company that values professionalism, initiative, and integrity.
