Verbrec is one of the largest engineering and EPC consultancy companies in South Australia. Our current and projected work in hand for 2026 and beyond has created opportunities for an HV Maintenance and Project Electrician in the HV sector.
The role is based at Edinburgh RAAF Base with other project site locations. We actively promote ongoing technical development of our personnel – including HV switching, HV test equipment, and other relevant HV industry training sessions.
Our maintenance and construction teams deliver projects in metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. They are well known for delivering innovative, safe and industry‐leading projects, and we are market leaders for turnkey projects in Defence, materials handling, water infrastructure, mining and hydrocarbons. About You
You must have a SA 'A' Grade Electrical Licence and experience within the high‐voltage maintenance sector – including HV cable terminations up to 11kV, HV cable testing, and HV cable pulling/installation. Your work experience should reflect a heavy industrial, high‐voltage and/or mining background across maintenance, project, construction and commissioning works.
* Current and valid HV switching ticket with a minimum of 5+ years experience
* Sound knowledge of Australian electrical standards and HV safety procedures
* HV cable terminations
* HV cable testing
* Protection relay configuration and testing
* Currently hold or ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance
* Currently hold or ability to obtain a police clearance check
* Working at heights
* LVR and CPR certificate
* First aid training
* High‐risk work licence
* White card
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking experienced E&I commissioning technicians to lead the testing, commissioning and energisation of HV assets, ensuring safety, reliability and quality.
* Testing & commissioning: conduct HV testing and commissioning of substations, switchgear, transformers, protection systems and power generation systems. This includes HV primary and secondary system testing in a substation environment and knowledge of HV/LV transformer testing (e.g. Tan Delta, turns ratio, SFRA, Dirana, voltage ratio, winding resistance, oil sampling).
* Switching operations: construct switching programs, perform isolation and switching operations on 11kV high‐voltage systems.
* Troubleshooting: identify faults, perform repairs and provide technical solutions.
* Safety & compliance: uphold and execute site safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and risk assessments.
* Reporting: document test results and prepare detailed reports for project managers.
Required Qualifications & Skills
* Commitment to safety and ability to work in a collaborative, fast‐paced environment.
* Carry out JSEAs and other hazard identifications prior to commencing new works.
* Liaise with Defence representatives, base services contractors, engineers and project teams.
* Assist with outage planning and shutdown coordination.
* Supervise contractors where required to ensure safety and compliance.
* Support commissioning and energisation of new and upgraded infrastructure.
