About Atrada
Atrada specialises in the design and manufacture of modified shipping containers for mining, resources, and industrial clients across Australia. Our projects range from simple single‐unit modifications through to complex multi‐container builds — amenities blocks, control rooms, battery rooms, wet units, and bespoke industrial enclosures. We work in demanding environments where what we design has to function in the real world, first time.
The Opportunity
We're growing, and our design function needs to grow with us. We're looking for a Senior Design Draftsman who is hands‐on first and foremost — someone who picks up the mouse and does the work themselves. You'll take full ownership of your projects from client brief through to issued‐for‐construction drawings, with a small team of offshore support draftspeople available to handle repetitive, low‐value drafting tasks such as title block updates, drawing revisions, and standard detail work.
The offshore team is there to free up your time for the design thinking and complex drawing work — not the other way around. You direct them on specific tasks; you own the output.
What You'll Do
* Personally produce design layouts, spatial arrangements, and detailed drawings for complex container builds — amenities, wet areas, electrical rooms, water and waste systems, HVAC, and fitout.
* Work hands‐on in SolidWorks and AutoCAD daily — this is a doing role, not a directing role.
* Delegate repetitive or low‐value drafting tasks (revisions, title blocks, standard details) to offshore support draftspeople, providing clear briefs and checking their output.
* Apply practical knowledge of how services interact — water supply, gravity drainage, electrical rough‐in, structural penetrations — to produce designs that are buildable.
* Work within relevant Australian standards and ensure designs meet client specifications and site requirements.
* Liaise directly with Project Managers and Production to resolve design queries through fabrication.
* Travel to our Grass Valley facility as required — typically up to two days per week, particularly during project kick‐off and fabrication phases.
* Contribute to BOM generation and drawing issue processes.
What a Typical Project Looks Like
You might receive a brief for a four‐toilet amenities container with a battery room. From that, you'll need to work out:
* How the toilets are arranged so waste exits cleanly toward the rear.
* Where the water tank sits so it gravity‐feeds to the fixtures.
* How the battery room is isolated, ventilated, and accessible.
* How all of this fits within the container envelope without conflicting with the structure.
You'll produce the concept yourself, brief offshore support on any repetitive drawing tasks, review their output, and own the finished set of drawings. That's the job.
What We're Looking For
* 5+ years of hands‐on drafting or design experience in a relevant field — fabrication, modular building, portable accommodation, industrial fit‐out, or similar.
* Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD — both are used daily and knowledge of each is essential.
* Strong spatial reasoning and practical understanding of how building services and fit‐out work together.
* A hands‐on worker — you are comfortable and happy to be at the CAD station producing drawings yourself.
* Ability to read and interpret client specifications, structural drawings, and project documentation independently.
* Reliable transport and willingness to travel to the Grass Valley facility up to two days per week.
Highly Regarded
* Background in modular buildings, portable accommodation, or mining and resources infrastructure.
* Familiarity with AS/NZS structural steel standards.
* Experience delegating to and coordinating with offshore or remote drafting support.
* Exposure to fabrication or construction environments — you know what a shop floor looks like.
What We Offer
* A genuine senior role with full project ownership — not a support position.
* Varied, interesting work across complex industrial and mining projects.
* A tight‐knit, capable team that values practical know‐how over credentials.
* Competitive salary package commensurate with experience.
