Daywork is a billing method for construction work. Instead of a fixed price agreed upfront, work is charged based on actual time spent plus actual materials used. You might also know this as 'time and materials', 'do-and-charge', or 'cost-plus'. Works are traditionally recorded on paper and this paperwork is used to substantiate an invoice. But there are big, messy, expensive problems with this process for both contractors and clients — and we are the solution.
Dayworkbook is an Australian construction technology startup on a mission to liberate construction professionals from daywork chaos. We've built the only platform that turns the entire daywork process digital — Create. Sign. Compile — so contractors can focus on doing great work.
We serve 42+ trade categories across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, and Canada. We're bootstrapped, fast-growing, and proud of zero customer churn. Our brand voice is direct, authentic, and a bit cheeky — think dependable workmate, not faceless tech company.
This is a ground-floor sales opportunity. You'll be one of the first dedicated salespeople at Dayworkbook — and you'll have a direct line to the founders every single day.
The Role
We're looking for a driven, personable sales gun who loves being out in the field and on the phone. Your job is simple: get in front of subcontractors, show them why Dayworkbook is a no-brainer, and book them in for a demo with our CEO.
This isn't a desk job where you wait for leads to come in. You'll be driving to industrial areas, walking into trade businesses, making cold calls, and building a pipeline from scratch. You'll get a proper playbook, full product training, and hands‐on coaching from the founders — but ultimately, you'll be the one who goes out and hunts.
As you grow into the role, you'll also start running demos yourself and owning the full sales cycle end‐to‐end. If you've got the hunger, there's a clear path to a senior sales role as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
Outbound Prospecting & Cold Outreach
* Make cold outbound calls to subcontractors and trade businesses across Perth and beyond
* Visit industrial areas in person (Malaga, Welshpool, Bibra Lake, Kewdale, and surrounds) to introduce Dayworkbook face‐to‐face
* Identify and qualify leads across our 42+ trade categories — electrical, plumbing, concrete cutting, scaffolding, civil, and more
* Manage and update your pipeline in HubSpot CRM — every call, visit, and follow‐up logged
* Hit weekly KPIs: calls made, businesses visited, and qualified demos booked
* Book qualified prospects into demo calls or meetings with our CEO, David
* Reduce no‐shows through smart follow‐up sequences — SMS, calls, and email
* Keep prospects warm between booking and demo with relevant content and check‐ins
* Work with the team to refine scripts, objection handling, and qualifying frameworks
* Shadow demos with Dave and learn the full product inside‐out
* Progressively take ownership of demos and close deals yourself
* Provide feedback on common objections, trade‐specific pain points, and market intel
* Support onboarding of new customers to ensure smooth activation
Market Development
* Build relationships with trade associations, industry contacts, and referral networks
* Identify new prospect sources — trade directories, LinkedIn, job boards, Google Maps
* Represent Dayworkbook at industry events, expos, and site visits where relevant
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
* Based in Perth, WA — this is a field‐based role and you need to be local
* A natural talker and people person — you're comfortable walking into a business cold and starting a conversation
* Resilience and hunger — you don't let rejection slow you down; you treat it as data
* Organised and self‐disciplined — you can manage your own schedule, hit daily targets, and keep CRM data clean without being micromanaged
* Driver's licence and reliable vehicle — you'll be on the road regularly
* Basic tech literacy — comfortable with a phone, laptop, and picking up new software quickly
Nice-to-Haves
* Background in construction, trades, or site work — you can talk to a sparky or a concreter like a peer, not a salesperson
* Prior sales, BDR, or customer‐facing experience — hospitality, retail, or field sales all count
* Familiarity with CRM tools like HubSpot or similar
* Experience with cold calling or door‐to‐door outreach
* Interest in technology, SaaS, or startups — you get excited about building something from nothing
* Existing network in the Perth trade or construction community
What You'll Get
* Competitive base salary + commission — we reward people who perform
* Uncapped earning potential — the harder you work, the more you make
* Direct access to founders — you won't be managed by committee; you'll get real coaching and real feedback
* Full product training and a proven sales playbook — you won't be thrown in the deep end without a paddle
* A clear growth path — as Dayworkbook scales, senior sales and leadership roles open up for the people who earn them
* A team that takes the work seriously but doesn't take itself too seriously
* The chance to be an early hire at a fast‐growing startup — your impact here is real and visible
Our Culture & Brand
Our brand values are Simple, Reliable, and Transparent — and we try to live those internally too. We're a small, tight‐knit team (think startup energy, not corporate process). We work hard, communicate openly, and genuinely enjoy what we're building.
We care deeply about the construction industry and the tradespeople we serve. The best person for this role probably knows what it feels like to be on a job site — or at least respects the people who are. If you'd rather be out talking to people than sitting in meetings, this is your kind of place.
How to Apply
Send us the following to admin@dayworkbook.com:
* A short cover note — no templates. Tell us why you want this role, what makes you good at talking to people, and whether you have any ties to the construction or trades world
* Your resume or LinkedIn profile
* Short Video Introduction (2–3 minutes). Record a short video pretending we are a customer. Introduce Dayworkbook to us, explain what daywork is, the common problems with it, and how Dayworkbook solves those problems. A simple recording on your phone or laptop is perfectly fine.
* Optional: any examples of sales results, targets hit, or deals you're proud of — even from non‐traditional sales roles
We'll be in touch within a week. No recruiters or agencies, please.
