Overview
Mu Lan Hobart is a modern Chinese restaurant located in North Hobart, renowned for our refined interpretation of Shanghai and Sichuan cuisine. Responsibilities
* Plan, organise, direct, and control the overall operations of the restaurant in line with business objectives
* Work closely with the head chef to develop and refine menus that reflect authentic Shanghai and Sichuan cuisine while meeting local customer preferences
* Manage purchasing, pricing, and stock control of food, beverages, and operational supplies within budgetary constraints
* Maintain records of stock levels, financial transactions, and operational performance
* Ensure strict compliance with Australian food safety standards, workplace health and safety regulations, and licensing requirements
* Monitor customer satisfaction, respond to feedback, and implement improvements to enhance the overall dining experience
* Recruit, train, supervise, and roster front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service delivery and high performance
* Coordinate reservations, functions, and special dining events, ensuring smooth execution and customer satisfaction
* Develop and implement promotional strategies to maintain and grow customer base, including seasonal menus and special events
* Oversee presentation and cleanliness of dining and service areas to maintain a premium dining environment
* Liaise with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure consistent quality and timely delivery of goods
Qualifications
* At least 3 years of relevant full-time experience as a Restaurant Manager
* Demonstrated experience in a Chinese or Asian cuisine restaurant, preferably with exposure to Shanghai or Sichuan-style dining
* Strong knowledge of traditional Chinese dining service styles, including shared dishes, banquet service, and customer engagement practices
* Proven ability to manage restaurant finances, including budgeting, cost control, and stock management
* Sound understanding of Australian food safety standards, WHS requirements, and hospitality regulations
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, train, and motivate a diverse team
* Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to handle customer concerns professionally
* Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume dining environment

* Mandarin language skills or familiarity with Chinese culture (highly regarded)
