The Team
The North West Maternity Services (NWMS) is primarily located at the North West Regional Hospital, with satellite and community-based services delivered across Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), King Island District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and West Coast District Hospital. Our service covers the full scope of maternity care including antenatal clinics, parenting education classes, pregnancy and postnatal assessment services, a 4-bed birthing suite, 20 bed inpatient ward, 8 bed special care nursery and extended care midwifery services for women when they discharge home after birth. We also offer women dedicated lactation services as well as connections through our allied health colleagues for social work, women's health physio and diabetes services and perinatal mental health.

The North West Maternity Service are inviting applications for our well supported and comprehensive TtPMP from midwives who:
Are passionate about caring for women

And who can enjoy the challenge of developing themselves as individuals while also developing as midwives
We welcome applications from
postgraduate registered nurse/midwives, direct entry registered midwives and dual degree (registered midwives/registered nurses).

Details of appointment
Permanent, part time, shift worker positions, working up to 64 hours per fortnight, commencing from
18 January 2026
.
Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary:
$78,179 to $105,995 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria
Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
Current Driver's Licence (Community Nurse positions only)
Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable
In line with the requirements of the Transition to Practice Program:
Less than six months experience (since date of initial registration) as a registered midwife
Less than two years since completion of Registered Midwife qualifications for registration
