About the Role:
The Centre for Crop Diseases Management (CCDM) at Curtin University is seeking a Research Associate/Fellow to contribute to the activities conducted nationally by the GRDC Soil Borne Disease Initiative Program 1 – Economic impact of soilborne disease, with a focus on meta-analysis and economic impact analysis. In this role, you will develop an economic impact assessment of soil borne diseases on the Australian Grains Industry.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Developing code and using statistical software to manage and analyse data
Contributing to the drafting and dissemination of research results through seminars, workshops and conferences.
Publishing/exhibiting in high quality journals/outlets, often in collaboration with colleagues, in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
Undertaking principal supervision of junior research staff including honours and research masters students (Level A/B), and co-supervision of research doctoral students where appropriate (Level B).
Undertaking scientific reporting, including technical reports, peer-reviewed publications and interpretive summaries.
Participating in consulting meetings
Participating in applications for competitive funding.
Who we are looking for – Selection Criteria:
A PhD in a relevant discipline such as Applied Statistics, Mathematics, and/or Agricultural Economics, Data Science. We will also consider candidates who are making progress towards PhD completion.
A demonstrated track record in statistical analysis, especially meta-analysis and economic impact assessments.
An emerging (Level A)/established (Level B) publication track record in relevant fields.
Evidence of excellent scientific writing skills
Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
Commitment to working effectively within team environments – with a preference for candidates with experience in working within multi-disciplinary teams.
Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.

As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role to be considered.

The Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM) at Curtin University brings together expertise in plant pathology, farming systems, biometry, bioinformatics and data science, together with agribusiness, actuarial science and geographical information systems. We have strong industry and academic partnerships and focus on research to overcome key challenges in the broadacre crop production industry.
Within the CCDM, the Biometry and Agricultural Data Analytics team brings together biometricians, bioinformaticians, data scientists and GIS experts to solve problems for the Australian broadacre agriculture industry. Together, we develop and apply advanced biometry, data science and methodologies to the design and analysis of complex experiments, field trials and novel research projects.
The CCDM provides a unique inclusive collegial environment for scientists interested in biometry and data analytics, enabling and encouraging everyone to develop their full potential and supporting group members with mentorships, professional development opportunities and on the job training.
