You will contribute to the company\'s bioinformatics, software development and computational analysis capability and core service offerings in genomics and health, transforming complex data, building scalable data pipelines and analytical tools, and ensuring the robustness of our systems. Tasks and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for creating, analysing and maintaining large datasets of molecular and genomic information, and using computational methods and mathematical models for statistical analysis, while also conducting dynamic simulations and pattern analysis of biological and genomic data. All tasks are considered essential functions; however, reasonable accommodations may be made for additional duties as needed.
- Work collaboratively with the R&D;, Health and Digital Solutions teams to understand business priorities, present novel approaches and tools for bioinformatics analysis and implementation, and architect cutting-edge and production-ready analysis solutions.
- Initiate and lead future biotechnology analysis initiatives that align with the Business Strategy.
- Collaborate with our genetics, machine learning and software engineering teams to advance digital technologies.
- Maintain excellent data chain of custody and data security.
- Collaborate with the core genomics service team on gene annotations, SNP annotations, genome comparisons, genomic database interrogations, and establish NGS pipelines (targeted and genome-wide).
Required Experience & Skills
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant bioinformatics and data science discipline.
- Five or more years’ experience as a bioinformatician and/or data scientist with real-world experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing scalable, maintainable software used in production systems.
- Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and data collection methodologies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in high-throughput systems and systems design.
- Fluent in Python and R.
- Experience with Linux environments and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS).
- Experience with platforms such as Galaxy and Bioconductor is desirable.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining next-generation sequencing pipelines for bacterial and metagenome analysis, including report templating and automation.
- High level of competence in analysis of large genetic datasets and linking phenotypic data sets.
- Strong leadership and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex bioinformatics concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Eagerness to continuously improve business processes through AI and digital enablement.
- Current driver\'s licence in Australia, class C, or equivalent.
- English essential; other languages beneficial.
- Must have current legal working rights in Australia.
