Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability.

For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.


A new role awaits

Are you passionate about creating lasting change for Australians living with disability and making a positive impact utilising your experience in providing high‑quality government policy analysis and advice? The New Framework Policy Branch is seeking proficient APS6 Policy Officer professionals to join the NDIA, as part of the Policy and Practice Leadership Division.

We are seeking excellent communicators who are skilled at preparing draft reports, briefing papers, speeches, correspondence and discussion papers. You will have a demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse data and evidence, to develop solutions to complex issues. You will exhibit active listening and be confident in liaising with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, modelling the APS and NDIA Values and making a positive contribution to the Branch culture.


Where you can add value

As an APS6 Policy Officer you will contribute to complex policy work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents, under limited direction. The position is required to provide detailed policy analysis and advice in relation to complex issues. You will be required to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the Branch.


Responsibilities

* Providing written and verbal policy analysis and advice on complex matters for senior executives and the Minister.
* Conducting research and analysis to inform policy development.
* Interpreting, drafting and reviewing policy and procedural issues with relevant business areas and key stakeholders.
* Contributing to the planning and implementation of NDIA policies and objectives.
* Drafting reports, briefing papers, agendas, minutes, speeches, correspondence and discussion papers.


Qualifications

* Experience working in policy roles within the disability, social policy, legal or government sectors.
* Demonstrated ability to research and develop complex written and verbal policy analysis and advice to the Minister and senior executives, utilising clear and concise language, under limited direction.
* Strong analytical mindset and persuasive communication skills.
* Enthusiastic and passionate about government policy.
* Positive contemporary attitude towards people with disability, with understanding and knowledge of disability and its impact on individuals.

* Midland – remote working arrangements may be considered.

While this role is ideally performed from VIC. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity; however, non‑ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre‑employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
