Academy Services Officer (AO4) Business Services, Queensland Fire Department

Full time, Contract, Part time, Casual/Temporary

The Academy Services team provides facilities and resource management, logistical coordination, facilities maintenance, business support, financial and human resource management, and the adoption of new technology to support QFD's education and training operations at the Academy. The Business Services team focuses on providing facilities management services in support of QFD's delivery of suitably qualified operational personnel. The team contributes to operations and the development, implementation and monitoring of ongoing strategies, policies, procedures and systems, achieved by ensuring optimum utilisation of the facility.


About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to the built and landscape environments, and scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. QFD offers a multi‑hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and supports community safety outcomes. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) and broader functions supporting volunteer membership across the state. QFD is committed to reframing the department's relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building cultural capability.


Key requirements

* Government purchasing (level 1).
* SAP training and experience for purchasing.
* Knowledge and/or experience in Workplace health and safety legislation and compliance regulations.


Your key accountabilities

* Assist with day‑to‑day coordination of facility management activities, including training props, office accommodation and grounds maintenance to meet stakeholder needs and specifications while ensuring compliance with government policy and process.
* Provide high‑level customer service to staff and clients, coordinate and monitor specialist facilities maintenance and building contractors, ensuring works comply with legislative, standards and departmental requirements.
* Conduct regular site maintenance audits and needs analysis for continuous improvement of educational facilities and assets, aligning with departmental procurement processes for rectification and future works.
* Interpret and apply workplace health and safety legislation and best practices in an educational facilities environment, contributing to the development and review of new policies, procedures and initiatives supporting efficient and safe Academy operation.
* Prioritise tasks, organise workflows and monitor personnel to ensure technical requirements and maintenance of educational facilities and assets meet client expectations, keeping the facility operational and fit for purpose.
* Build and maintain productive, respectful working relationships with diverse key internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, to ensure quality maintenance and construction services are delivered efficiently.
* Monitor various administrative systems and programs, building management systems, security and CCTV, extracting and interpreting data and providing recommendations to optimise facility performance.
* Assist with quality assurance to ensure systems such as security, air conditioning and fire alarm systems remain compliant with safety regulations, monitoring operational status and maintenance logs to enable timely intervention and prevent operational disruptions.
