Role Overview

The Transport Booking Team Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing the operations of a centrally located team of Transport Planners and Transport Dispatchers, ensuring the effective coordination, planning, and execution of managed transport activities using the SAP Transport Management (SAP TM) on behalf of all Distribution stakeholders. The role also manages non-standard freight movement requests and determining the most appropriate channels for transport execution to meet organisational requirements, compliance standards and service level expectations within a complex enterprise and security environment. This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and managing Transport Booking Team resources, and ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining compliance with policies, and fostering a collaborative and high‐performing team culture.

Responsibilities

* Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Transport Planners and Transport Dispatchers to ensure effective delivery of transport planning and dispatching services.
* Set clear performance expectations, monitor team performance, and provide regular feedback and development opportunities.
* Foster a positive and inclusive team culture aligned with APS values and organisational priorities.
* Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of transport activities managed by the team, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and stakeholder needs.
* Provide guidance and support for resolving escalated issues related to transport planning and dispatch.
* Ensure efficient utilisation of SAP Transport Management (SAP TM) across team operations.
* Assess and manage non-standard freight movement requests, determining assignment of the most appropriate channels for transport execution.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate options, costs, risks, and compliance requirements for specialised freight movements.
* Develop and implement processes for managing and tracking non‐standard freight activities.
* Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding managed transport operations and non‐standard freight movements.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, key requestors, including warehouse teams, transport providers, and senior management.
* Represent the organisation in negotiations with transport providers and in discussions on operational improvements.
* Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the managed transport operations and team performance.

* Identifies opportunities for innovation and process improvement in transport operations.
* Leads the team to deliver high‐quality transport planning and execution outcomes, meeting deadlines and organisational expectations.
* Manages resources effectively to optimise operational efficiency.
* Builds and sustains positive relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external providers.
* Provides clear, concise, and tailored communication to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders.
* Negotiates effectively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes in complex transport scenarios.

To be successful, candidates must have

* Understanding with transport execution within large logistics network structure and operations.
* Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, with a focus on transport planning, dispatching, or general logistics operations.
* Strong knowledge of SAP Transport Management (SAP TM), or similar systems, and the ability to oversee its effective use in operational settings.
* Proven ability to assess and manage non‐standard freight movement requests, including evaluating transport channels and ensuring compliance with policies.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including experience in negotiation and conflict resolution.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and managing risks.
