The Opportunity
Responsibilities
We are looking for an extraordinarily motivated and experienced Rates Officer to join our high functioning Corporate Services Team in Kununurra to ensure efficient and effective rating and property management processes, and relevant statutory obligations are always met by the Shire. We understand that it is sometimes difficult to immediately consider moving to a remote area and if you are the right person for this role we will work with you to provide options on flexibility. The role will also assist in the development, implementation and achievement of the Department's Business Plan including supporting the Manager Finance and Director Corporate Services in preparing information for the annual statutory financial statements, monthly Council Reports and other management reports as required. Your responsibilities will include:
* Property and Rating Administration
* Rates Modelling and Budget Preparation
* Compliance and Legislation
* Reconciliation of rates and charges schedules for Council adoption
* Annual Billing and Calendar Activities
* Debt Recovery and Customer Liaison

What You Will Bring
You will have relevant qualifications in Business, or Finance (Diploma level or higher) at least three years experience as a Rates Officer in Local Government and current National Police Clearance (within the last 6 months)
You Will Also Need
* Substantial experience in managing rating functions within a WA local government
* Sound knowledge of relevant legislation
* Proven ability to conduct rates modelling and prepare rate schedules
* Strong customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
* High level of accuracy, data management, and financial reconciliation ability
* Ability to prepare reports, handle audit queries, and manage competing deadlines
* Familiarity with settlement agent practices and rating exemptions
* Experience coordinating debt collection and legal escalation
