Your new role
As Assistant Director, Finance and Procurement (EL1), you'll play a pivotal role in setting up and strengthening the organisation's financial and procurement capability. Operating with autonomy and influence, you'll lead core financial management activities while providing trusted advice to senior leaders.
In this fast-moving environment, you'll be responsible for management accounting, internal budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting, including executive-level reporting and whole-of-government systems. You'll coordinate the preparation of financial statements in line with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and Australian Accounting Standards, while overseeing end-of-month and end-of-year processes.
You'll also lead procurement advice and compliance, ensuring activities align with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, and manage key systems and accounts such as CBMS, banking, credit cards and travel contracts. Working closely with central agencies, you'll contribute to budget publications, costings and new policy proposals.
This role is based in Canberra, ACT, with hybrid and flexible working arrangements available.
What you'll need to succeed
* Extensive experience in financial management, budgeting and financial reporting within the APS
* Strong knowledge of the PGPA framework and Commonwealth Procurement Rules
* CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent)
* Experience using whole-of-government financial systems, including CBMS
* Proven ability to provide high-quality financial and procurement advice to senior stakeholders
* A proactive, adaptable approach suited to a newly established organisation
* Baseline (or) Negative Vetting Level 1 clearance
