About New Porgera

Recent Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua Recent Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua Current Guinea's total annual exports.

About the role

Due to internal promotion, we are currently seeking an experienced Alternate Manager – Finance to join our Porgera based operation responsible for overseeing all site-based financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cost management, taxation & treasury, analysis, payroll and financial reporting supported by a sizeable site-based team, closely interacting with the Barrick regional finance function.

Key responsibilities include:

- Monitor and control OPEX and CAPEX performance against approved budgets including improvement of operationally based cost management.
- Ensure compliance with PNG taxation laws, company policies, and international accounting standards including SOX.
- Manage quarterly and month-end closing activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting and forecasting with accuracy and as per reporting calendar.
- Support strategic decision-making through financial modelling, analysis, and business insights, implementing global best practices.
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies within PNG
- Lead, mentor, and develop a local finance team to ensure high standards of financial governance, identifying opportunities for cost savings, process improvement, and system enhancements

There will be a key focus on ensuring your technical team is working closely in partnership with all stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of plans, understanding of NPL's priorities, working as One Team, developing and optimising processes, procedures, coaching and developing your team to ensure consistent performance and compliance with statutory requirements, industry standards, and global best practise.

You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk. NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.

About you

NPL have a supportive and dynamic culture. Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage 'a few projects well' simultaneously.

To succeed in this role, key requirements include:

- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or related discipline with CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification (mandatory)
- Demonstrable experience of leading and improving financial management functions preferably within Mining, Oil & Gas or heavy industry in a developing nation or a similar remote/complex environment is highly regarded.
- Strong background in cost accounting and site-based financial operations experienced in building individual and organisational capacity, systems and process, proficient in financial systems such as Pronto and SAP
- Excellent leadership, cultural awareness, and communication skills

Prior knowledge of Papua New Guinea's regulatory environment and community dynamic is highly desirable. You will lead the team in line with NPL policies and standards whilst measuring and monitoring the functions project management and stakeholder performance, establishing and delivering to world-class practices.

You will demonstrate a 'One Team' approach, providing effective leadership, training, guidance, support and development for your local team to reinforce NPL's culture and values, always promoting a safe work environment. The position requires a high energy individual, hands-on management style and desire to continuously improve you and your team's knowledge and systems and methods of work.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea or Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster with a highly competitive remuneration package.
