Construction Inspector
Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to join our Development Planning & Engineering team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being out on site, working with industry, and ensuring civil infrastructure is delivered safely, compliantly and to a standard our community deserves.
This is a Level 4-5 position.
As a Construction Inspector, you will provide monitoring and inspection services across active development sites to ensure works comply with Council approvals, conditions and standards. You’ll be a key point of contact between Council and the construction industry, helping deliver public infrastructure and parks assets that meet community needs.
At Level 5, the role includes greater involvement in complex or critical infrastructure, along with providing higher-level technical input and mentoring support to planning and engineering colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspecting civil construction works including roads, drainage, landscaping, water and sewer infrastructure
* Conducting audit, hold-point and acceptance inspections
* Reviewing as-constructed documentation and technical reports for compliance
* Preparing clear inspection reports and maintaining accurate records
* Liaising with developers, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders
* Providing practical technical advice on construction matters
* Building and managing professional relationships with industry
* Supporting continuous improvement of procedures, guidelines and specifications
Qualifications
* Certificate III (Level 4) or Certificate IV (Level 5) in Civil Construction
* General Construction Induction (White Card)
* QLD ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
* Experience in civil infrastructure construction and/or inspection
* Strong communication and negotiation skills
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
* Sound report-writing and record-keeping skills
* Confidence working independently while contributing to a team environment
Experience with erosion and sediment control, landscaping or parks infrastructure will be highly regarded.
