As a Data & AI Practice Manager, you provide oversight and mentoring across a multidisciplinary team spanning data engineering, analytics/BI, platform operations, and AI/ML engineering. You will collaborate with other Practice Managers and technical specialists to create consistency in client management, delivery approach, and resource allocation for projects and operational needs. This is a directly chargeable and team leadership role, accountable for client engagement and business development, scoping, solution design, and successful delivery of data platform and AI initiatives.

Drive Comunet's Data & AI Practice and engage in business development.

Maintain personal knowledge and expertise in data platforms, analytics, AI/ML practices, frameworks, and emerging technologies to lead and deliver meaningful change.

Manage consultants and client managers in concert with resource and project managers across Comunet.

Work closely with internal stakeholders, external service providers, clients, and suppliers.

Provide status updates and progress reports as required by leadership team members.

Actively manage a personal portfolio of Data & AI clients and opportunities.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Own the delivery of data platform programs: modernisation, migrations, data integration (ETL/ELT), quality and governance using Data/DevOps practices.

Lead solution scoping and estimation for Data & AI projects, shaping proposals/SOWs, workshops, and delivery plans in collaboration with Project Management.

Guide clients on AI use‐cases, feasibility, data readiness, and value realisation; oversee discovery, experimentation, and production phases.

Meet personal and team chargeable targets in line with set budgets.

Drive personal and team consulting capabilities including clear training and development plans.

Influence innovation, architectural and technical design solutions for both Comunet and our clients.

Drive continuous improvement of Comunet engagement and consulting processes, both technical and non‐technical.

Engage in relevant vendor or community events and user groups

Be accountable for delegated HR functions for technical specialists as required.

Act as senior point of escalation for data and AI challenges and client issues.

Provide monthly commentary/reporting on team and individual performance, resourcing status/risks, and client portfolio development.

Understand information management responsibilities associated with the role and adhere to relevant policies and procedures.

Implement data classification, retention, and access controls across client engagements; ensure appropriate handling of PII and sensitive data.

Understand and advise on emergent legislation, guidelines, and practices for Data and AI across security, and ethical concerns.

Promote privacy‐by‐design and security‐by‐design as relevant to each client.

Key required skills and qualifications:

A minimum of 10+ years' experience delivering professional IT services, including 5+ years in a combination of Data/Analytics/AI leadership or client management.

You will need to hold an appropriate formal qualification in Information Technology, Data Science or relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

Role will require interstate travel and out of hours commitments.

Proven ability to translate business objectives into Data & AI strategies, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.

Strong oral and written communication skills for engaging clients, leading workshops, and producing clear documentation.

Effective project management skills: planning, execution, timelines, budgets, and resource coordination in partnership with Project Management.

Leadership and team management: building high‐performing teams, fostering collaboration, and aligning goals.

Client Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients is essential. This involves understanding client needs, providing excellent service, and ensuring client satisfaction

Continuous learning mindset: staying updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Extensive experience with data platforms (Snowflake, DataBricks, Fabric) and cloud providers (e.g., AWS and Microsoft Azure native data and development services).

Hands‐on understanding of data integration (ETL/ELT), streaming, data modelling, warehousing/lakehouse architectures, and BI/analytics (e.g., Power BI).

Experience with data governance and cataloguing (e.g., Microsoft Purview) including lineage, metadata, and policy enforcement.

Exposure to AI/ML engineering: feature pipelines, model training/evaluation, MLOps (MLflow/Azure ML, SageMaker), monitoring and drift management.

Experience in a consulting organisation highly regarded.
