**Science Laboratory Technician**
**Part Time, Term Time (school term weeks only)**
**3 days per week (Mondays are required, negotiable on other days)**
**7.30am - 3.30pm**
We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Science Laboratory Technician to join our team. Responsible to the Head of Faculty - Science through the Science Laboratory Coordinator, the Science Laboratory Technician supports teaching and learning of Sciences at the Middle Senior School by ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, resourcing equipment and supplies, preparing learning materials and supporting teachers in classroom work.
**Skills and Abilities**
- Capacity for scientific accuracy and integrity
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously and part of a team
- Understanding of secondary science syllabus and ability to determine class requirements to support teaching staff in this environment
- Knowledge of teaching materials and preparation required for science classes, assessment, and practical exams
- Ability to support teachers on excursions and in practical classes
- Ability to source and maintain all equipment required for lessons, practical classes, demonstrations, and exams
- Ability to prepare and troubleshoot experiments for use by students at all year levels (7-12)
- Knowledge of science laboratory resources required for secondary classes, and ability to control stock
- Ensure current Safety Data Sheets are available
- Maintain risk assessments and ensure work practices comply with legislative workplace health and safety requirements, particularly those pertaining to chemicals, biological matter and electrical equipment
- Ability to ensure correct disposal of waste, including chemical and biohazardous waste, and updating resource databases and hazardous substance registers
- Willingness and ability to contribute to ongoing improvement and expansion in your own knowledge and skill set
**Qualifications & Requirements**
- Must have Laboratory experience
- Certificate 3 or above in Laboratory Skills or Tertiary qualifications in science, or equivalent, combined experience and education are essential
- Current Drivers Licence
- Current Paid Blue Card (or willing to obtain prior to commencement)
- Current CPR/First Aid Qualification or willing to obtain prior to commencement
