About the role
First Sheds is seeking an experienced Earthworks Foreman to join our dynamic team in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position that will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing essential earthworks operations for our construction projects. Working on residential and commercial sites in Canberra and surrounding regions.
This role is not limited to driving excavators - This is a very hands on role, reading plans, talking to clients and reporting to project management. This role does not suit someone coming from civil construction who wants to sit in an excavator all day.
What you'll be doing
* Reading and Interpreting construction plans - Including Architectural plans, Engineering details and hydraulic plans.
* Operating heavy machinery, including bobcats and excavators, to perform site preparation, trenching, and other earthmoving tasks
* Supervising and coordinating the work of labourers and plant operators to ensure efficient and safe completion of earthworks
* Developing and implementing site-specific work plans and procedures to optimise productivity and minimise disruption
* Monitoring site conditions, identifying potential issues, and recommending solutions to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met
* Maintaining detailed records of equipment usage, material consumption, and project progress
* Reporting to the project manager for site updates
What we're looking for
* Minimum 5 years of experience as an Excavator Operator or Earthworks Foreman in the construction industry
* Comprehensive knowledge of earthmoving equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and lead a team
* Familiarity with relevant construction regulations and safety standards
* Relevant industry certifications or licences (white card, asbestos card, excavator ticket, etc)
