As a Staff Software engineer, you will be part of BPay squad within Domestic Payments crew building a current banking experience. You will be working with engineers on uplifting business capabilities and modernising our tech stack. We offer regular opportunities to work on some of the finest IT systems in Australia serving millions of customers, as well as opportunity to develop careers across different functions and teams within the wider Bank.
You'll be hands-on coding and be responsible for shaping the evolution of this system by designing and developing micro services, data access layers, REST API(s), and writing integration services for third-party API consumption, manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing, as well as learning more about back-end engineering. You'll also be invited to join our regular engineering guilds and provide technical guidance to the junior members of the team.

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:
• Cloud: AWS, Serverless, Containers, and VM Hosting
• Databases: AWS Database technologies (Aurora, RDS, Redis), ElastiCache, Oracle
• Languages: Typescript or Java
• Eventing: SQS, SNS, EventBridge, KAFKA (MKS)
• Engineering: Github, Github Actions, Terraform Enterprise, Artifactory, AKKA, SST
• Observability: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Observe, CloudWatch
• Security: Vault, Security Management, Parameter Store, AWS Certificate Manager, AWS Secrets Manager
• Design skills
• Testing: TDD, BDD, Automation Framework
• System Design: Tech debt, data-intensive applications, database design, API design, microservices, event-driven and serverless architecture
• Engineering: Deployment methodologies, SRE
• Payments: NPP, SWIFT, BIAN- Desirable
• AI: AI in engineering (e.g., Cline, CoPilot), RAG, MCP, Gen-AI, Agentic-AI, machine learning
