Primary objective
Provide assistance and advice to the Sentence Management Team, including the preparation, development and review of individual
Offender Management Plans (OMP), including motivational interviewing and goal development with prisoners and participating in
meetings and reviews.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop individual Offender Management Plans for prisoners, to establish suitable goal orientated pathways, to prepare for
their transition to the community.
2. Conduct interviews for the development or review of individual Offender Management Plans with prisoners.
3. Consult and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders for the implementation of comprehensive Offender Management Plans.
4. Ensure the Sentence Management policies and procedures comply with the relevant legislation and participate in the
development and implementation of initiatives relating to offender management.
5. Provide assessments and reports as required, and maintain accurate, legible and proficient case notes, records and statistics.
6. Be an active member of a collaborative team and provide mentoring and assistance as required, to other team members.
7. Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of sentence management policies and procedures and the
Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).
8. Carry out duties as requested by the Senior Sentence Management Officer and Chief Correctional Officer, Sentence
Management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high standard of effective written and oral communication skills, including strong attention to detail and proof-
reading skills.
2. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously or as a collaborative team member, manage time effectively, prioritise workloads
and approach issues in an innovative way.
3. Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australian society and the ability and
commitment to work within a cross-cultural environment effecting change.
4. Ability to apply contemporary practices, procedures and polices including the use of criminogenic assessment tools.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of case management practices and motivational interviewing principles.
6. Knowledge and understanding of current Government and non-Government programs and services relevant to the
reintegration needs of all prisoners.
7. High level of skills in the use of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office suite and
databases.
8. Display sound professional ethics of confidentiality and discretion.
Desirable
1. Knowledge or ability to quickly acquire, the objectives, structure and legislation of Northern Territory Correctional Services.
2. Knowledge and understanding of the requirement and limitations of working within a complex secure environment.
