**The Role**
The Directorate of Navy Safety and Environment works across a range of specialisations including work health and safety, occupational hygiene, environment protection, and compliance and risk management systems.
We are an integrated workforce which includes military and civilian personnel with highly specialised skills and deep maritime experience.
As the Quality Assurance Officer, you will work in a small team responsible for managing the ongoing assurance activities around the implementation, improvement, and effectiveness of the Navy Safety Management System as well as developing new cutting-edge safety assurance and enterprise level risk management initiatives.
You will maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.

The Navy Safety and Environment (NavySafE) team is part of the Navy Engineering Division and works across a range of specialisations including work health and safety, occupational hygiene, and environment.
NavySafE is accountable for developing and sustaining Navy's Safety and Environment Management Systems and assuring Navy senior leadership that these systems are effectively implemented and maintained.
To succeed in this role, you must have personal drive and integrity with the ability to:
- Contribute to the coordination, governance and implementation of the Navy Safety Assurance Program to ensure all statutory requirements are met by Navy, risks are identified, and the naval enterprise maintains seaworthiness.
- Assist in the planning and management of quality assurance processes and governance procedures, practices and frameworks to ensure the safety management system is effectively implemented in accordance with legislation, Defence policies and procedures.
- Assist in the design and implementation of strategies to enhance the effectiveness of quality assurance, governance and risk management processes.
- Provide advice and support on the development and review of safety policy and approach to safety risk management.
- Assess trends in WHS performance to identify high risk areas and work with stakeholders to design remediation strategies.
- Engage and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders on quality assurance activities to ensure expected outcomes are achieved.
