About The Role
The Resources Regulator is seeking a senior mine safety officer with electrical engineering experience to join the Electrical Engineering Team. The Senior Mine Safety Officer, a statutory and administrative position, drives health and safety performance in NSW mines through risk management, incident prevention, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, monitor and review mine operators' health and safety management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and adopt acceptable standards.
* Provide technical expertise and advice on high‐risk activity notifications, exemptions, and other technical matters.
* Undertake technical assessments of authorisations, applications and notifications; advise mines and licensed facilities of compliance status in writing.
* Conduct announced and unannounced inspections and assessment activities at licensed facilities and mines.
* Consult with mine operators to ensure corrective actions are addressed promptly and assist in scheduling improvement actions to protect workers.
* Investigate incidents and non‐compliances, review circumstances, determine causal factors and recommend preventive measures, including responding to incidents outside normal business hours on a rostered basis.
* Participate in industry engagement via Standards Committees, Industry Forums and Seminars.
Ideal Candidate
Previous employment in an electrical engineering role, with project management or supervisory level experience within the mining industry, is ideal. The role requires exceptional negotiating, influencing and relationship‐building skills, and a strong understanding of best‐practice approaches amid evolving legislation and technology.
Qualifications
* Electrical engineering qualification.
* Sound knowledge of mining and work health and safety legislation.
* Knowledge of technology, systems and practices applied in mining.
* Experience with auditing methodologies.
Things to Know
* Must be able to respond to incidents outside normal business hours (backshifts, weekends) on a rostered basis.
* Class C driver licence is required.
* Compliance with pre‐employment probity screening is mandatory.
* Appointment is subject to satisfactory participation in a pre‐employment health assessment.
