We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full time Illegal Dumping Officer to join the City Safety and Liveability Branch within the Council.
Logan City Council is seeking a motivated and community-focused individual to join our Illegal Dumping Taskforce as an Officer. This role is critical in protecting our city's environment and public spaces by identifying, investigating, and enforcing illegal dumping offences.
As an Illegal Dumping Officer, you will work under general direction and be appointed as an authorised person under the Local Government Act 2009, Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011, and applicable local laws.
Position responsibilities include:
* Conduct proactive and reactive investigations into illegal dumping, dangerous littering, and charity bin misuse.
* Install and monitor surveillance cameras in hotspot areas and collect evidence for enforcement actions.
* Issue statutory notices and Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) and manage follow-through to resolution.
* Liaise with residents, businesses, and internal teams to educate and promote compliance.
* Prepare high-quality reports, correspondence, and records that support legal proceedings.
* Coordinate clean-up arrangements and ensure environmental and public health standards are upheld.
Key indicators for success:
* Strong investigative and compliance and enforcement skills
* Ability to interpret legislation and apply it to real-world scenarios
* Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
* Experience in field operations, surveillance (including installation of cameras and monitoring equipment), or environmental enforcement is highly desirable
* Proven evidence gathering skills (collect, document and present evidence)
* A commitment to community safety and environmental protection.
* Tertiary qualifications (Certificate IV in Government Investigations) or similar, and/or demonstrated experience, highly regarded.
* In addition to passing all pre-employment and background checks, the below are required:
* Pre-employment functional assessment
* Valid 'C' class driver licence
* Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Q Fever
* Police Check
