Recycling Plant Manager - Construction & Demolition Waste
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Recycling Plant Manager to oversee the operations of two construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant processing of materials, with a strong focus on equipment uptime, preventative maintenance, and productivity. The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience in high-throughput environments, technical knowledge of plant machinery, and a passion for driving continuous improvement in recycling operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight:
Lead daily operations across two recycling plants, ensuring effective material recovery and throughput.
Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics for C&D waste, including scheduling haulers, coordinating material sales and managing relationships with outgoing material vendors.
Implement and refine operating procedures for sorting, processing, and recycling various waste streams (e.g., concrete, wood, metals, gypsum).
Maintenance Leadership:
Take ownership of all plant equipment performance including crushers, conveyors, screeners, shredders, and material handlers.
Lead maintenance planning—develop preventative maintenance schedules and manage emergency repairs.
Supervise maintenance teams across both sites; troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues as needed.
Work closely with OEMs and service providers to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
People & Safety Management:
Supervise plant supervisors, operators, and yard personnel; promote a culture of accountability and safety.
Conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and ensure all team members follow OSHA/local health & safety protocols.
Investigate incidents and near-misses; implement corrective actions promptly.
Regulatory & Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations related to construction waste processing and stormwater management.
Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, permits, emissions controls, and reporting.
Planning & Reporting:
Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including plant uptime, material recovery rates, downtime causes, and cost per ton.
Support budgeting, capital planning, and procurement of equipment or spare parts.
Provide weekly and monthly operational reports to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
5–7 years of experience in plant or operations management, preferably in C&D recycling, aggregates, mining, or heavy industry.
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial equipment, and plant infrastructure.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multiple teams or sites.
Forklift, loader, or equipment operating certification is mandatory.
Hands-on experience with maintenance planning systems and operational performance metrics.
Proficient with MS Office and capable of learning site-specific ERP or weighbridge systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical/trade certification or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or similar field.
Familiarity with local environmental regulations related to waste processing and recycling.
Experience with Lean/5S or continuous improvement methodologies.
This role involves regular site travel between two facilities.
Physical presence on the plant floor and outdoor environments is required.
Weekend or extended hours will be necessary during peak activity or equipment outages.
