About the Role
As a Medical Practitioner at the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct, you will provide high-quality medical care to young people in a secure custodial setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary health team, you will deliver care that is holistic, coordinated and trauma-informed, supporting the complex physical, developmental and psychosocial needs of vulnerable adolescents.
This role requires close collaboration with nursing, mental health, allied health and Youth Justice staff to ensure safe, respectful and culturally appropriate care that meets Department of Health and Department of Justice and Community Safety standards.
Key responsibilities
4. Provide comprehensive medical assessment, treatment and ongoing care for young people at Cherry Creek
5. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated, trauma-informed and youth-focused care
6. Ensure clinical practice meets legislative, professional, National Safety and Quality Health Service and Child Safe Standards
7. Maintain accurate clinical documentation and actively participate in quality improvement and education activities
What we're looking for
8. Medical qualification with FRACP and/or FRACGP and/or FACEM (or equivalent)
9. Experience working with disadvantaged or vulnerable populations in paediatrics, adolescent health, emergency medicine or primary care
10. Strong ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex clinical environment
11. Well-developed communication skills, adaptability and a compassionate, respectful approach to care
About Cherry Creek Primary Health Service
Barwon Health partners with the Department of Justice and Community Safety to deliver comprehensive healthcare services at the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Centre, a 140-bed facility accommodating males aged 15–17 years, both sentenced and on remand.
Services include emergency response (supported by Barwon Health Virtual ED), primary care, integrated mental health and drug and alcohol services, allied health, general practice and specialist medical care. The service operates from a purpose-built, state-of-the-art health facility, with 24/7 on-site nursing and a 7-day primary care clinic, supported by on-site diagnostics and pharmacy.
