About the Victorian Institute of Sport:

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) was set up to assist the development of Victoria's best athletes. It was established in **** by the State Government as a private trustee company, with its Board of Directors appointed by the Victorian Minister for Sport.

The VIS is located at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. The VIS headquarters completed a renovation in February ****, providing a brand new workspace for athletes and staff. It is a non-residential institute, which utilises Melbourne's outstanding sporting facilities, to allow high performance athletes to live and train in Melbourne, the sporting capital of Australia.

The VIS operates in partnership with National Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Associations to deliver high performance daily training environments (DTEs) for sports and athletes in support of the National High Performance Sport Strategy outcomes. Our facility and staff help prepare and support future and current Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and World Champion athletes.

About the role:

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) is offering an exciting 12-month opportunity for an early-career physiotherapist with a strong interest in sports physiotherapy. This role forms part of the VIS Performance Health Services team and provides a unique blend of hands-on clinical exposure, structured learning, and immersive experience within elite sport.

You will work regularly with the VIS Diving Program while also rotating through a range of other VIS sport programs, gaining diverse experience across high-performance environments. The position includes a comprehensive professional development curriculum across both clinical and organisational domains, complemented by ongoing mentoring from highly experienced Sports & Exercise Physiotherapists.

As part of the role, you will undertake an applied learning project during the 12-month period, contributing to innovation and best-practice within the VIS Physiotherapy team.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver world-class, proactive, and integrated physiotherapy services to VIS athletes in line with the Australian Institute of Sport's
Sports Science Sports Medicine Best Practice Guidelines
.

Work collaboratively with the wider performance support team - including Medical, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Science, Dietetics, Performance Psychology, Performance Lifestyle (AW&E), and Soft Tissue Therapy — to provide holistic, athlete-centred care.

Communicate consistently with coaches and performance staff regarding athletes' physical capacities, including the development, documentation, and monitoring of return-to-play plans and integrated rehabilitation programs.

Maintain accurate and compliant clinical records via AMS, aligned with the AIS Data Dictionary (version 2.1), and routinely review data to ensure epidemiological and statistical quality.

Analyse injury trends and performance data using AMS and other sources, identifying opportunities for early intervention to reduce injury risk and enhance performance outcomes.

Engage in ongoing professional development, both internally and externally (including relevant NSO physiotherapy networks), to continually elevate the standard of physiotherapy service delivery.

Positively represent the VIS Physiotherapy Department and the VIS at all times, demonstrating professionalism, fairness, strong ethics, and high-quality communication.

Ensure compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health and Safety legislation, and all VIS policies and procedures.

Required qualifications/ experience

Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent undergraduate level tertiary Physiotherapy qualification

Current AHPRA registration

Current first-aid certification

Current Working with Children/Working with Vulnerable People Check

Current Safeguarding Children certification

Desirable qualifications/ experience:

At least 2 years working in a sport environment, with a demonstrated desire to pursue a career in sports physiotherapy

Whilst Sports titling is not a pre-requisite, direct engagement with the titling process is advantageous

Demonstrates a sound knowledge of injury epidemiology and management in elite sport

Demonstrates an understanding of injury prevention strategies, including the use of load monitoring tools

Proven experience of working in an integrated, interdisciplinary team environment

Experience using the Athlete Management System platform

Record of achieving high personal and team performance and meeting organisational objectives
