Role Description/Criteria 
St Mary's Primary school in Hastings is looking for an experienced and passionate Leader of Learning and Community. This role encompasses all areas of learning and teaching within our school, working with teachers to continue to drive academic excellence in learning for all members of our community. Our school consists of 7 classes and approximately 140 students and we have a vibrant and warm community of staff and families.
The Leader of Learning and Community at St Mary’s Primary School holds a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness and accountability of the school’s learning and teaching practices. This position requires a strong commitment to working collaboratively with the Principal and other members of the Leadership Team, while also maintaining the autonomy to take initiative and lead in the development of educational strategies. The role demands excellent time management, goal setting, problem-solving, sound judgment, and thoughtful planning, all within a framework of teamwork and cooperation.
The Leader of Learning and Community is responsible for harnessing available resources to ensure that St Mary’s employs evidence-based research to inform and guide all educational practices, in line with the Victorian Curriculum. This person must stay well-informed about the latest developments and findings in education, collaborating with MACS, our governing body, to implement strategies that support continuous improvement in teaching and learning. By doing so, the Leader of Learning and Community ensures that every student at St Mary’s is given the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential as a learner.
This role plays a key part in fostering a culture of ongoing professional development, supporting staff in enhancing their teaching practices and maintaining high standards across the school. The Leader of Learning and Community also promotes a student-centered approach, ensuring that learning experiences are tailored to meet the diverse needs of all students, helping them to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
The Leader of Learning and Community also works with school staff to promote and embed Indigenous perspectives into learning, as well as sustainability practices to teach the importance of this to create the best future for all.
This leader promotes and engages with all members of the school community, to support the school being a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages partnership and collaboration between community and school to support every student to flourish and thrive.
