The opportunity
At Hobsons Bay City Council, safety and wellbeing sit at the heart of how we serve our people and community. As the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you'll provide strategic leadership to shape a proactive, compliant, and innovative safety culture across Council. You’ll lead the development and implementation of frameworks, policies and programs that support injury prevention, return-to-work, and holistic wellbeing, ensuring Council meets its regulatory obligations and maintains contemporary best practices.
What you’ll be doing
* Leading the development and implementation of Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) strategy
* Overseeing the HSW Management System, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards
* Fostering a positive safety culture through engagement, education, and coaching
* Building leadership and employee capability to support a strong HSW culture
* Partnering with internal and external stakeholders to deliver effective HSW outcomes
* Ensuring safe systems of work and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
What you'll need to succeed
* Tertiary qualification in OHS, Risk Management, or a related field (minimum Certificate IV in WHS; Graduate Diploma/Master’s in OHS desirable)
* Proven leadership experience in health, safety and wellbeing within complex, multi-stakeholder environments, ideally in government or large organisations
* Demonstrated success in designing and executing strategic OHS frameworks, and leading major HSW projects, compliance audits, and wellbeing initiatives
* Expertise in continuous improvement methodologies and data-driven decision making
* Skilled in stakeholder engagement, change management, and influencing at all levels
